Consultations.
Where do I start? The purpose for a consult is to help you answer that specific question. Too often, people considering a separation and divorce attempt to first do as much on their own and then reach out for unanswered questions. I encourage prospective clients to understand the first step should be speaking with an attorney who can a) answer all of your legal questions; b) educate you on the methods to facilitate resolution, c) identify what makes your case unique (because they all are); and then d) assist you in determining what your next step should be. A good consult should last about 1 1/2 - 2 hours and by the end of the consult you should feel as if you are moving forward with a sense of control and understanding. You should have a good sense for your attorney's personality and how their individual style meets your needs.
Premarital and Postnuptial Agreements.
Some people have a need for safety in the form of a Premarital (a.k.a. Pre-nuptial) Agreement or a Postnuptial (Post-Marital) Agreement. Whether that need for safety is to address what happens in the event of a divorce, in the event of death or some other occurrence, Accord Law can assist you in the drafting and/or review of your Agreement.
Absolute Divorce.

Separation, Divorce and Special Needs.
There are some things you have to personally experience to understand and special needs is one of them. As a matter of fact, most of us use the term "special needs," to help outsiders gain insight into our world, but we may not feel this term truly applies to our child. If you find yourself in a situation where you are considering a separation or going through a divorce, you will want to make sure your attorney understands. While the reality is all of our children are unique and oftentimes it feels as if no one truly understands what you are going through, there are those of out there who have gone through something similar. Whether that's being told your child is delayed, experiencing painful IEP meetings, preparing special dietary meals or driving miles for therapy sessions Adrian has been there. Adrian has worked with families who have a child or children with ADHD, Aspersers, Autism, Cerebral Palsy, or general delays.
Divorce and Mental Health Issues.
Our North Carolina family courts are poorly designed to handle the challenges of mental health issues such as alcoholism, anxiety, domestic violence, anger, depression, bi-polar disorder, narcissism, etc. Oftentimes, you may find yourself emotionally and physically trapped because you live in an environment where the mental health issue drives most of your emotional, physical and financial decisions. While our society is becoming more adept at labeling the issue, we still find ourselves isolated and demoralized. If you have the courage to begin face the mental health issue and are considering a separation or divorce Adrian can support you on that journey. She has a true gift of understanding and compassion that can ease the burden your are shouldering.
